Hearts eye Ogum as replacement for coach Slavko Matic
Accra Hearts of Oak could turn their attention to former Asante Kotoko coach, Prosper Nartey Ogum, as a potential replacement following a frosty relationship between their fans and Coach Slavko Matic.
For now the club is still in dilemma over what to do with their Serbian gaffer who has since stayed out of the team's technical bench after he was prevented by the fans from coming to the training grounds following a series of poor results.
A source close to the club hinted the Graphic Sports that the team was considering a move for the former Kotoko gaffer who they consider as a good coach.
With the 46-year-old Serbian trainer’s two-year contract still running, the club is thorn between keeping him or sacking him and paying his compensation as required in his contract.
However, if it becomes necessary to part ways with him, Ogum is the likely choice as he has emerged on the radar of the club and sources say he would be their surest bet as replacement.
Matic's role in the club is increasingly becoming limited having been left out of the bench in their last three games with David Ocloo taking charge of their victory against Kotoko and a draw away to Bibiani Goldstars last Saturday.
The source hinted that Hearts have begun a behind-the-scenes engagement with the University of Cape Coast professor who is said to be a big admirer of the club and was willing to join the Phobian family.
“Ogum is a more preferred choice for Hearts because he’s a good coach and I’m hearing that he is interested in the job”, the source stated.
When the deal is sealed, Ogum would join a list of coaches who have coached both local giants including Ernst Middendorp, Herbert Addo, David Duncan, Paa Kwesi Fabin, and Charles Kwablan Akonnor.
It is expected that Coach Ogum would get approval from the board with Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe once openly declaring his admiration for the coach and advocating for him to be appointed interim coach of the Black Stars when Coach Milovan Rajevac was sacked even when he was still with Kotoko.
