Cricket: Ghana fall to Nigeria

Nigeria’s Foundation Cricket Club (FCC) thrashed Ghana’s top-ranked Accra Titans by 79 runs in an international friendly played at the Achimota Cricket Oval last Saturday.

In a 50 overs match which saw the visitors batting first, having won the toss, FCC made 190 runs in the first innings in 43 overs.

In the second innings, Titans made 111 runs in 25.2 overs to fall short of Nigeria’s massive runs in the first innings.

Lagos-based FCC were in the country for a two-day international friendly aimed at strengthening ties between the two clubs and also to promote cricket in West Africa at club level.

On the second day of the tour, another Ghanaian side, BGC, won back some pride for the hosts after beating FCC by two wickets. In the first innings, BGC made 234 runs, losing eight wickets playing all the overs.

At the end of the innings, FCC managed only 131 runs , all out in 36.4 overs, earning BGC a narrow win.

The two Ghanaian teams are expected to make a return trip to Nigeria later in the year.
