We don’t have an agent— Enugu Rangers

Nigeria club side, Enugu Rangers, say they did not appoint any agent to act on their behalf in their agreement with the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) over the payment of the $30,000 for playing in last year’s President’s Cup.

According to Rangers, the named agent, Eric Oppong Yeboah, was introduced to them by the chairman of GHALCA, Alhaji Ali Raji, as a member of the Organising Committee for the association.

In an angry reaction to claims and the production of a receipt by Alhaji Raji and purportedly signed by Oppong  Yeboah on behalf of the club, Mr Foster Chime, the Communications Director of Enugu Rangers said, “ we never asked anyone to act on our behalf or collect any money on our behalf. As part of the agreement with GHALCA, we provided a bank account into which all monies due us should be paid, so nobody could have received any cash on our behalf.”

Mr Chime said he was shocked by the assertion from Alhaji Raji and hinted that officials of the Nigerian club would be in Accra next week, to help unravel this mystery.

“We are embarrassed by the turn of events and perhaps, the only way to end this mystery will be to come to Ghana and tell our story as well as lodge a protest with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).”

Indeed, a copy of a receipt signed by Mr Oppong  Yeboah on behalf of Enugu and dated January 31, 2015, sited by the Graphic Sports, indicated that he had received $10,000 on behalf of Rangers.

Over the past week, the Executive Council of GHALCA has been trying to solve the puzzle of how the chairman and treasurer secured a $9,000 loan from the GFA ostensibly to pay part of the $30,000 debt owed Enugu Rangers, without the knowledge of the council members.

Mr Amoako , the treasurer, said the entire amount was handed over to Alhaji Raji after withdrawing the cash from the bank, while Rangers have denied receiving any money.
