Ampem Darkoa sweep awards
Ampem Darkoa Ladies yesterday dethroned arch rivals Hasaacas Ladies after defeating them by a lone goal to lift the coveted 2015/2016 National Women’s League (NWL) trophy at the new Cape Coast Stadium.
Having won the title on three successive occasions, Hasaacas Ladies, representing as the champions of the southern zone, had come into the game confident of winning again, but they soon realised they had bargained much more than they could handle as Ampem Darkoa Ladies, champions in the northern zone, came tougher than expected.
The two sides sold a good game and kept their defense safe and clean for the first half and the early parts of the second half until the 65th minute when Grace Asantewaa scored the goal that would eventually seperate the two sides. Asantewaa beautifully scored a freekick from the centre after referee Delight Alorbu awarded Ampem Darkoa Ladies a free kick.
Hasaacas Ladies, three-time winners of the competition, tried every possible means but all efforts to grab the equaliser proved futile as goalkeeper Evelyn Yeboah denied them every opportunity, and hand her side a sweet revenge over their loss in last season’s final, as well as help them claim their first silverware since joining the women’s elite competition three seasons ago.

As champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies received GH¢10,000 as well as the trophy, while Hasaacas Ladies got GH¢5,000 for finishing second.
