Tamale political parties urge govt to reduce 'high' power tariffs
Some opposition political parties in the Northern Region have held a joint press conference to complain about electricity tariffs.
They have consequently given the government a one week ultimatum to reduce electricity tariffs by at least 50 per cent or face the full force of the anger of the people.
The political parties comprising the New Patriotic Party (NPP) , Convention People's Party (CPP) , People's National Convention (PNC), Progressive People's Party (PPP) and the All Peoples Congress (APC) jointly addressed the press conference in Tamale.
The NPP’s Northern Regional Communications Director, Mohammed Abdul Kudus read the statement titled "Reduce the Killer Electricity Tariffs Now, Mr President" on behalf of the parties.

They said the high electricity tariffs have brought untold hardships on the people of the north thereby collapsing businesses and increasing the unemployment rate in the area.
According to them, businesses can no longer cope with the "killer electricity tariffs" that took effect in December 2015.
Mr Kudus said the political parties were not alone calling on the government to reduce the electricity tariffs but several identifiable groups in the region.
Some hairdressers, tailors and dressmakers present at the press conference said they could no longer afford the high prices of electricity and called for a reduction.
