Rebecca Akufo-Addo appeals to Krowor residents for support
The wife of the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has appealed to supporters of the party to work hard to ensure that the party wins the upcoming polls.
Mrs Akufo-Addo made the appeal when she addressed some members of the party at Nungua-Nshonaa in the Krowor Constituency in the Greater Accra Region during a health screening exercise there.
She indicated that some of the challenges confronting the country, such as unemployment and harsh living conditions, would be tackled head-on, if the NPP government was voted into power.
“I appeal to all of you to go and campaign in every part of the community and ask people to vote for the NPP. Go to the stores, homes, everywhere to ensure that we get the votes and win this election,” she emphasised.
Promote health needs
The NPP parliamentary candidate for Krowor, Madam Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, for her part, explained that the objective of the health screening was to promote good health among the people, particularly the less privileged.
“Certain kinds of diseases are prevalent in certain parts of the community. For instance, malaria is prevalent along the coastal areas, hence the need to embark on this exercise to at least enable the people to check their health status, so that they can get some form of medication,” she explained.
She said the major occupation of the people living along the coast was fishing and promised to find solution to challenges fishermen faced when voted into office as the MP for the area.
Madam Quaye, who is an agriculturist by profession, promised to use her knowledge and skills in agriculture to support them with better fishing methods that would improve their livelihoods.
She mentioned the establishment of cold stores to serve as a storage facility during bumper catches to avoid wastage and improve their income.
“We have noticed that if we are able to provide cold stores for the fisher folk, they will be able to keep the excess fish and sell it on a later day when they don’t make any catch to make more money, instead of all going waste,” she noted.
Education
On education, Madam Quaye indicated that one of her priorities would be to put up a community library within the constituency to encourage schoolchildren especially pupils in lower primary to study.
“Education is so dear to my heart and so the plan is to put up a library to help inculcate the habit of reading in children, with some special rewards for those who would patronise the facility. This, I believe, will encourage other children to see the importance of using a library,” she added.
In the area of youth development and empowerment, she hinted of plans to put up a sports complex to enable the youth of Nungua and its environs to harness their talents and skills to develop themselves to become useful to their community and the country.
“There are many youth in this community who are very talented in sports but have no support, and so the plan is to make use of the available land, with support from the chiefs, to put up a sports complex for them to develop their talents and skills which may even be an avenue to provide jobs for them in future,” she noted.
The parliamentary candidate mentioned the establishment of a community bank to provide financial assistance for businesses, particularly the start-ups.
She appealed to the youth to vote for the NPP, saying that all the policies and plans for the constituency could only materialise if the NPP was voted for on December 7.
The health screening brought together dozens of party faithful from all parts of the constituency.
