Growing incidence of violence, hate speech unacceptable — Rt Rev. Agidi

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Rt Rev. Dr Seth Agidi, has deplored the growing incidence of violence and hate speech in the country.

He noted that, such acts and utterances were detrimental to the peace and stability in the country.

“Are we relinquishing our religious virtues of tolerance, self-control and love for one another that bonded us together as a country with a common identity? Why do we want to destroy the blessing of peace and stability that God has bestowed unto us over the years?” the moderator asked.

Thanksgiving

Rt Rev. Dr Agidi was speaking at a thanksgiving service in Accra in memory of the Bremen Missionaries from Northern Germany and other pioneers who contributed to the establishment of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in 1847.

The annual event dubbed, “Founders Day,” was instituted in November 2013 to honour the founder members of the Church whose dedicated efforts led to the proliferation and growth of Christianity and formal education in the country.

Tension

Rt Rev. Dr Agidi observed that the high level of mistrust, bitterness and hatred was creating needless tension in the country ahead of the December general elections.

He, therefore, entreated all faith organisations in the country to rise to their religious responsibility by admonishing their members and the public against engaging in acts that could destabilise the peace and unity of the country.

Tribute

The moderator paid glowing tribute to the founder members of the EP Church for their dedicated stewardship as faithful disciples of Christ.

He urged people serving in leadership positions in all Christian faith institutions to be inspired by the high spirit of evangelism and selfless devotion to duty exhibited by those pioneers towards the liberation of humankind from ignorance and deprivation.
