Political system concentrating on ‘pull your enemy down’ — Rev. Asamoah
A barrister of Nissi Consult, Rev. Frederick Asamoah, has observed that the political system is concentrating on “pull your enemy down” and, therefore, there is no strong unity and discipline to develop Ghana.
He has, therefore, called on Ghanaians to be rather disciplined and united as the nation approached the polls on December 7, 2016.
Rev. Asamoah, who is also an old boy of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) at Adentan in the Greater Accra Region, said democracy as exercised by political parties in the country should unite rather than divide the citizens.
He was speaking at the 70th anniversary celebration of WASS in Accra on Saturday.
Political system
According to him, “As a developing country, Ghana needs absolute unity and discipline in order to develop. There is no other way.”
Rev. Asamoah explained that democracy had been less beneficial as political opponents were seen as enemies to each other in the country.
He said such a political system had divided Ghanaians who were supposed to work together for the progress of the country.
He, therefore, called on Ghanaians to see the benefit of unity and discipline in the contemporary society.
Strict supervision
Speaking on the theme “Discipline: a prerequisite for academic excellence. A challenge to present and future generation”, the Headmaster of the school, Mr Edison Osei- Gyemera, said the strict supervision and monitoring efforts of teaching and non-teaching staff had assisted students to achieve higher heights since the inception of the school.
He said the school had the prospect of becoming a boarding institution and there was the need for staff accommodation to enable them to stay on the compound to provide supervision.
He lauded the efforts of some year groups and called on other old students of the school to come to the aid of the institution.
Mr Gyemera also made an appeal to the La-Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly to take steps to throw out sellers and squatters at the frontage of the school because their presence was a disincentive to teaching and learning.
Some old boys and girls such as Alhaji Abdul Razak El-Alawa, a media consultant, and Professor Clement Somuah of Christ Apostolic University College (CAUC), graced the occasion.
Master Gideon Obeng Mensah was adjudged the Overall Best Student of the year and he received a laptop, sets of books and a sum of GH¢1,000.
