Political authority meant to seek welfare of all — Afotey-Agbo

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, has stressed that political stewardship is a nominal authority that must be used solely to advance the good of the people.

He said authority was, therefore, not supposed to be used to satisfy the needs of political supporters alone.

Mr Afotey-Agbo was speaking at short ceremonies to formally inaugurate classroom blocks at Aveme-Resettlement Town and Botoku in the North-Dayi District.

“We have titles as ministers and other positions, but these were bestowed on us by virtue of votes cast by the electorate to put our political party in power,” he stated.

He said that did not mean “we should spoonfeed” those who voted us into power, but we should identify projects, and initiate programmes and policies that would improve the lives of everybody.”

Mr Afotey-Agbo pledged that “political appointees” were ready to serve the people.

“We shall serve you and serve you well, even at our peril,” he stated and said at the end, they, the people, including the chiefs, would be those who would give good testimonies of “our stewardship.”
