Kwahu South revenue soars
The Kwahu South District Assembly, in the first half of the year, mobilised GH¢172,796.24 as internally generated fund, an increase of 56.36 per cent over GH¢110,512.4 collected some period last year.
Such a significant increase, according to the District Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Omari, was due to stringent measures instituted by the assembly, which enhanced the performance of the revenue collectors and also ensured that every amount collected was paid into the coffers of the assembly.
Addressing the assembly during the weekend, Mr Omari indicated that the amount would be supported with other funds such as the Common Fund as well as others from development partners, to provide additional social amenities and poverty-alleviation initiatives in the various communities within the district.
He said although most of the communities, especially the deprived ones, had within the past six years been provided with social amenities such as schools and clinics, a few others lacked such facilities and would be catered for within the next two years.
In that respect, Mr Omari told the House that a number of projects were currently going on, and mentioned some of them as the construction of market stalls at Nketepa, footbridges at Mpraeso, a clinic and gari processing plant at Asikam, as well as a three-unit classroom block with an office and store for the people of Formanso, a deprived community.
Apart from these projects, the assembly had also been supporting community-initiated ones such as a school spearheaded by the Obohene, for which the assembly donated 100 bags of cement.
The assembly had also, within the past six months, given out various sums to support sporting activities and the eradication of rabies in the district.
All these initiatives, according to Mr Omari, would further improve the living condition of the people in fulfilment of the government’s Better Ghana Agenda.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Seth Acheampong, advised the assembly members to relate well with the people in order to get their support for the development of the communities.
He also expressed his appreciation to the district level lawmakers for their co-operation.
The Presiding Member, Mr Frank Sam Ofosu Kissi, called on the assembly members to put aside political affiliations and unite to develop the communities.
Earlier, the District Director of the Ghana Health Services, Dr Bernard Asare, took the assembly members through the prevention and management of the Ebola disease and advised the people in the district to temporarily stop consuming bush meat, especially bats, which were the main carriers of the Ebola virus.
