Kwahu South communities to have social amenities
The Kwahu South District Assembly is currently undertaking a programme to provide mini-projects in every community, especially in the rural areas of the district.
The district, which was created in 1988, comprises 300 communities.
Apart from Mpraeso, the capital; Obo, Obomeng, Asakraka, Kwahu Praso and a few others which have most of the necessities of life such as clinics, schools, modern places of convenience and drainage systems, the rest are villages and hamlets without some of such amenities.
That situation has compelled the assembly to direct the 26 assembly members to identify the needs of the people in their communities and come out with priority projects to be executed by the end of the year.

Mini projects
Some of the mini-projects which are currently under construction are a mini-clinic and a cassava-processing plant at Asikam; a cassava-processing plant at Ntomen; stores at Nketepa, all deprived rural communities; the rehabilitation of wells and a kindergarten at Obo.
Others are two mini-footbridges on the rivers Asuboni and Ntontuo, both at Mpraeso, to enable residents cross from one end of the town to the other during the rainy season when the rivers are flooded.
Limited cost
The District Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Omari, who initiated the projects, indicated that the assembly had to execute them with its share of the Common Fund because it would not require any heavy financial outlay.
He also said although a lot of social amenities which involved huge sums had already been provided in almost all the communities during the past six years that he had been the political head of the area, he had realised that the communities, especially the rural ones, needed amenities which the assembly could afford.
Mr Omari added that the assembly, at its recent sitting, therefore, commissioned its members to consult their constituents and decide which projects were their priority.
Technocrats on site
To ensure that the projects were completed on schedule, Mr Omari, together with the assembly’s Planning Officer, Mr Nathan Narh, and the acting Co-ordinating Director, Mrs Vera Akuffo Mante, toured almost all the projects at the weekend to ensure that contractors were working.
Mr Omari advised the assembly members to visit the project sites periodically to ensure that the contractors worked according to schedule.
