EC Chairperson commends women's role in peaceful elections

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has commended female staff and women across the country for their hard work and dedication to peaceful, credible and transparent electoral outcomes.

In a statement marking International Women's Day, Mrs Mensa celebrated the strength, resilience, and professionalism of the female staff of the Commission, honouring their contributions to the EC's success over the past three decades.                    

"Your hard work and dedication to duty contributed to the peaceful, credible and electoral outcomes we witnessed as a country on December 7, 2024," she said.   

“Congratulations to all the women who have made a difference in the Electoral Commission of Ghana over the last three decades.

We honour you today, and look forward to continuing the fight for gender equality together," she added.

Mrs Mensa acknowledged progress towards gender equality in the country but emphasised the need for continued efforts to create a world where women and girls have equal opportunities and representation.

"That's why this year's theme, “Accelerate Action" is so relevant.

We must accelerate our efforts to create a world where women and girls have equal opportunities and equal representation,” she stated.

Mrs Mensa expressed confidence in young women and girls, lauding their strength, courage and resilience.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we should recognise that there is still much work to be done," she said, adding “Let's come together to accelerate action and join forces to create a more just and equitable society for all.”
