CPP, NPP, NDC salute Ghanaian workers
Three political parties extended warm wishes to the labour unions as they marked May Day yesterday.
The parties are the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
NPP
The 2016 flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, urged workers not to give up on Ghana.
In a statement to workers as they joined labour unions to celebrate May Day, the NPP presidential candidate said despite the difficulties, the Ghanaian workforce must once again stay faithful to the Ghanaian enterprise as he believed Ghana would work again.
Nana Akufo-Addo said the NPP remained committed to enhancing the dignity of the Ghanaian labour force.
He added: “It is through rapid industrialisation and value addition that our economy can create the needed pool of good jobs with good pay across Ghana to enhance the dignity of Ghanaian labour. The NPP is resolute in its commitment to building a society of opportunities for the Ghanaian people, which will provide good education, good skills, good jobs and good pay for all its citizens.”
NDC
The NDC also extended its warmest greetings to Ghanaian workers and congratulated them on the occasion of May Day.
In a statement, it said, “As you celebrate your rights, the NDC joins Ghanaians to commend you for your dedication, sacrifices and commitment to the growth and development of the nation’s socio-economic and political developments.”
The statement, signed by the General Secretary of the party, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said “the NDC will always acknowledge your commitment to social democratic principles and will continue to share in your aspirations towards qualitative improvement of all workers of this country. We reiterate that our decision to stand for workers is a confirmation of the long and unflinching commitment to uphold the human rights and dignity and the bond of friendship and respect which will continually exist between the NDC and a social progressive force like the Trades Union Congress (TUC).”
CPP
The National Chairman of the CPP, Prof. Edmund Delle, also saluted the Ghanaian worker on the occasion of May Day.
He said the CPP and organised labour had so many things in common and expressed the hope that as the country was in an election year, members of the union would play their expected roles for peace and tranquillity to prevail before, during and after the polls.
He lauded organised labour for their immense contribution to national develpment and urged them to team up with the CPP to bring effective good governance to all Ghanaians.
He said a future CPP leadership under its 2016 flag bearer, Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, would ensure Ghana worked again to alleviate poverty as well as share the national cake to cover all regions.
