CDD holds dialogue for mps, constituents
Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has organised an interface programme for the Member of Parliament (MP) and the people of the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency in the Western Region.
The programme was aimed at bringing together all stakeholders to discuss common development challenges in the constituency.
It was aimed at designing appropriate intervention mechanisms and also bridge the communication gap among stakeholders.
The forum also forms part of CDD-Ghana’s comprehensive governance programme that ensures that views of citizens feed into the broad development agenda of the district and the country at large.
Pilot project
Mr Kwabena Aborampah Mensah of CDD-Ghana, however, noted that the project was taking place in 13 out of the 26 constituencies in the Western Region as a pilot project.
He said issues discussed would be collated and shared with the Members of Parliament, the MMDAs and other stakeholders to serve as a guide towards efforts in developing their constituencies.
He added that periodic reviews would be facilitated in similar townhall meetings within the four-year tenure of the MPs to assess their progress and achievements.
He further mentioned that “Assembly and Unit Committee members serve as mobilisers and facilitators of development, interlinking the assembly and various electoral areas, while the MP serves as the representative at the national level who lobbies on behalf of the people for their share of the national cake.”
The discussions were guided by five focus areas: health, education, employment, agriculture and roads, as the top most priorities that the Ghanaian voter expects elected leaders to address.
