Birim Central MCE visits water project site
The Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ms Ophelia Koomson, has paid a working visit to the Oda-Akwatia-Winneba Water Project site at Akyem Oda.
She went to the dam site with Mr Owusu Frempong Boadu, the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, and other officials from the assembly, last Tuesday.
The construction of the dam, which is progressing steadily, is being undertaken by the ARDA GRUP of Turkey.
The project is being funded by the Turkish Exim Bank. Joes and Partners, a Ghanaian firm, is supporting the ARDA GRUP to undertake the project.

The team also inspected the pipes being laid, as well as a reservoir site on a hill at Akyem Asene.
Mr Anthony Marsaano Toampomah, the Director of Operations of the company, Mr Muharrem Atli, the General Manager, and Mr Mahmut Isot, Project Manager, led the team to inspect the 54- acre dam site.
Mr Toampomah told the entourage that when completed, the project would be serving about 80,000 people in the Akyem Oda Municipal and nearby communities.
He said it was not easy for the officials of the company when they arrived initially at Akyem Oda, but with the support of Ms Koomson, they acquired the site and paid compensation to farmers for the project to begin.
He said the project would be completed within three years, adding that within two years, water challenges at Akyem Oda would be a thing of the past.
Ms Koomson said currently water was a major challenge in the area, compelling some people to depend on shallow hand-dug wells, thereby contracting water-borne diseases as a result.
