Akufo-Addo gets rousing welcome at Akyem Oda

The fact that the Akyem Oda area is a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was manifested on Saturday when thousands of the party's supporters gave the NPP flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, a rousing welcome when he toured five constituencies in the Eastern Region.

Human and vehicular traffic came to a standstill in all the communities where Nana Akufo-Addo and his entourage visited as enthusiastic NPP members in the party's paraphernalia, amid drumming, singing and dancing and blowing of all sorts of horns, struggled to catch a glimpse of him or shake hands with him.

Addressing milling crowds at rallies at Oda, Achiase, Akyem Swedru, Awisa, Asene, Akyem Wenchi, Manso and Akyem Akroso, Nana Akufo-Addo, who was over whelmed by the turnout, advised the people to translate their massive support into votes on December 7, 2016 to ensure a resounding one touch victory for him.

He stated that President John Mahama was not only incompetent, but did not also care about the plight of Ghanaians so they should not give him another chance to mismanage the national economy, which is in a shambles under his watch.

Committed to policies

Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to establish one factory in each district to create jobs for the numerous unemployed youth in the country.

He also promised to give one million dollars to each constituency annually to undertake various development projects to raise the quality of life of the people.

Nana Akufo-Addo stressed that he would provide free senior high school education, revamp the national economy and revitalise the National Health Insurance Scheme, which is on the verge of collapse.

The NPP flag bearer said he would reintroduce the teacher and nursing training allowances which had been withdrawn by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

He noted with concern that when he promised to repay the two allowances, President Mahama hurriedly reintroduced one third of nurses training allowances which were being paid on tabletop instead of through the bank account of the beneficiaries, for fear that the nurses might vote against him on December 7, 2016.

Nana Akufo-Addo gave an the assurance that he would see to the passing of a legislation to regulate  small scale mining in such a way that the operators would not pollute rivers and destroy the environment.

He expressed concern about the deplorable roads in the Eastern Region due to their neglect by the NDC government and promised to rehabilitate them when given the mandate.

Reduce taxes

According to Nana Akufo-Addo, his government would reduce taxes for industries to operate efficiently and absorb some of the unemployed youth.

He emphasised that he could only implement his good ideas and programmes if the people gave him their mandate to rule the nation.

He, therefore, implored them to vote massively for him and all the NPP parliamentary candidates on December 7, 2016 to enable them to enjoy better governance, stressing that “do not vote skirt and blouse as that will affect my administration.”

Nana Akufo-Addo seized the opportunity to introduce Mr William Agyapong Quaittoo, Mr Robert Kwasi Amoah, Mr Kennedy Osei Nyarko, Mr George Kwame Aboagye and Madam Ama Sey as the NPP parliamentary candidates for Oda, Achiase, Akyem Swedru, Asene-Manso-Akroso and Akwatia constituencies, respectively, and advised the electorate to vote for all of them on December 7, 2016.
