Akoto Osei and Oboshie Sai Cofie get presidential advisor jobs

The immediate past Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei has been appointed as a Presidential Advisor on Economic Issues.

Similarly, Oboshie Sai Cofie has also been appointed as a Presidential Advisor on Media.

Former Senior Minister, Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, who has also been appointed as a Senior Presidential Advisor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made this known.

Mr. Osafo-Maafo who served as a Senior Minister in President Akufo-Addo’s first tenure but retired and chose to remain in the background in the second term disclosed his new role on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Assembly meeting

He was addressing the Birim Central Municipal Assembly at Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region Tuesday when he made the disclosure.

Mr. Osafo-Maafo said the President made the appointment at the first cabinet meeting on March 6, 2021.

The experience politician served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda for three terms from 1997 to 2009.

He also served as a Minister of Finance and Education under former President J.A Kufuor between 2001 and 2007.

Akoto Osei

According to Mr. Osafo-Maafo, at the same cabinet meeting, President Akufo-Addo appointed Mr. Anthony Akoto Osei as the Presidential Advisor on Economy and Ms. Oboshie Sai Cofie as the Presidential Advisor on the media.

Dr Akoto Osei first served as an economic adviser to President Kufuor's administration from 2001 before becoming a Deputy Minister of Finance in 2003 and later a Minister of State at the Finance Ministry from 2005 and became the substantive sector minister after the passing of Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu in 2008.

He became a Member of Parliament representing the people of Old Tafo-Pankrono from 2005 to 2021.

Oboshie

Oboshie Sai Cofie served as a deputy chief of staff in the Kufuor administration's first term 2001 to 2005 until she was appointed as deputy minister in the second term of President Kufuor.

She served as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Information from 2006 to July 2007.

She also served as Minister of Information and National Orientation, succeeding Kwamina Bartels as well as Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations.

Mr. Osafo-Maafo served as a Senior Minister in President Akufo-Addo’s first term but before the President recomposed his cabinet for his second term, he reportedly informed the president about his decision to retire and stay in the background in the second term.

Under his tutelage, the National Public Sector Reform Strategy which is to be implemented between 2018 and 2023 was prepared.
