Women receiving health care

Primary healthcare services for 500 women

More than 500 women in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem District in the Western Region have benefitted from primary healthcare services organised at Adieyem by AngloGold Ashanti, operators of the Iduapriem Mine at Tarkwa.

The free screening exercise revealed that some of the women were suffering from respiratory tract infection (RTI), malaria, hypertension and skin diseases. Some of them were treated, while those whose cases needed further assessment and management were referred to the appropriate health facilities.

The programme, which was on the theme: “Healthy Women, Healthy Iduapriem,” also increased awareness and knowledge of the women as regards ways of improving their health and their total well-being.

The exercise, which formed part of activities to mark the 2016 World Women’s day celebration, again sought to recognise the hard work and contributions made by women in the host communities of the mine.

Healthy lifestyles

The Physician Assistant of the Mine, Madam Cynthia Odoom Wilson, underscored the need for women to maintain and adopt healthy lifestyles such as improving sanitation, adopting healthy diets and family planning.

That, she said, would prevent diseases, especially diabetes, hypertension, cancer and sexually related ailments.

She also advised the women to seek prompt medical attention to save their lives.
