Youth urged to maintain peace
The acting Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Alhaji Alhassan Imoro, has advised the youth, particularly followers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to ensure that there is peace after the verdict of the Supreme Court.
“As we wait for the verdict of the Supreme Court on the 2012 presidential election petition the country was at a crossroad either to maintain peace or to choose the path of disturbances, chaos, anarchy and destruction.”
The NSS boss was speaking at the inauguration of an office complex and service week launch of the Ashanti NSS in Kumasi.
He said a huge responsibility rested on the youth of the country who usually engaged in socio-political skirmishes.

Speaking on the theme for the service week celebration: “Ghanaian Youth and Patriotism – The Role of Service Personnel”, he said the time had come for all to demonstrate a sense of patriotism in the country after the court’s verdict.
He pointed out that the NSS was faced with the huge challenge of providing modern facilities for office accommodation for its regional and district secretariats and that the inauguration was a step in the right direction.
He commended the Ashanti Regional Director of the NSS, Mr Kwesi Quainoo, for working closely with the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council for efficient delivery of service.
For his part, Mr Quainoo emphasised the importance of public-private partnership, saying that the inauguration of the renovated and refurbished offices of the Ashanti NSS was the manifestation of such partnership.
The LINA/BIGMA Company Limited sponsored the renovation and refurbishment of the offices with support from Samsung Ghana Limited, PZ Cussons Ghana Limited and Electroland Ghana Limited.
Mr Quainoo also expressed gratitude to Naachia Company Limited, a reputable private company in Kumasi, which undertook the paving and tiling of the frontage of the Ashanti NSS offices for free last year.
The National President of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), who is the Ashanti Regional NASPA President, Mr Wilberforce Awortwe Tabbi, said NASPA sought to bring service persons together to promote their welfare through various programmes and projects.
He said service persons had over the years contributed to the nation’s development and had been one of the key indicators of the socio-economic development of Ghana.
