Works on Nsawkaw 60-bed hospital reach roofing level

Construction of the 60-bed hospital at Nsawkaw in the Tain District in the Brong Ahafo Region is feverishly ongoing.

During a visit to the site by media personnel, it was observed that works on most of the buildings at the site were at the roofing level, while roads, pavements and drainage within the hospital had reached advanced stages.

The grounds were also being speedily prepared for landscaping.

The Resident Site Engineer of Euroget De Invest, the main contractors of the project, Mr Mahmoud Omran, said the project was about 60 per cent complete.

Mr Omran was confident that the project would be completed for official inauguration in October.

He said Euroget was financing the project, which had China Railways Number 5 (CR5) and David Walter Limited (DWL) as sub-contractors, and was committed to delivering on schedule.

The Resident Engineer gave an assurance that the major and more involving part of the works had been done and what was left could be undertaken within the specified time.

While working towards meeting the deadline, he said the contractors would not compromise on quality, but would perform to high and impressive standards. 

Nsawkaw Hospital facilities

The imposing Nsawkaw District Hospital will boast facilities such as outpatients and in-patients departments, a pharmacy, a physiotherapy unit, a laboratory and blood bank, radiology, a surgical suite, and an emergency & casualty/ambulance station.

The facility will also provide such services as reproductive health care, involving a delivery suite, maternity and paediatric care, an obstetrics and gynaecology ward that will comprise 14 beds and sick babies and premature babies unit.

When completed, the hospital will also boast a sterilisation unit, as well as a laundry, a washing and drying area, a kitchen and an outdoor cooking and preparation area, a staff dining area, a mini-market, water and sewerage treatment plants, a power station, a maintenance department and a mortuary, among other facilities.

Also included in the project is a staff housing facility to provide accommodation for the staff of the hospital.

Resident Engineer

Mr Omran assured Ghanaians that the contractors had all the necessary materials to ensure the smooth execution of the project.

“The structural works have been completed,” he emphasised, adding, “We will soon roof the building to show to residents in this area that we are serious and on course.”

Euroget Administrator

For his part, the Administrator of Euroget De Invest, Mr Baba Anaba, said his outfit was undertaking the project under a turnkey agreement with the government.

That, he explained, meant that Euroget was financing and executing the project, which included furnishing and the provision of all medical equipment before handing it over to the government for use.

The government for its part, he noted, was expected to pay the loan within 18 years.

According to Mr Anaba, Euroget was also constructing similar health facilities across the country along similar agreements.

He said they included the 500-bed Military Hospital in Kumasi and a 250-bed Regional Hospital also in Kumasi.

“Contrary to speculations that nothing was going on here,” Mr Anaba said, “you are witnesses to the fact that work is going on feverishly here and we are on course to complete this project on schedule.”

Mr Anaba said medical equipment for the Nsawkaw District Hospital would soon arrive in the country for installation in good time.
