The Volta regional chapter of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has appealed to the Volta Caucus in Parliament to help it mobilise funds for the purchase of musical equipment.
According to the MUSIGA chapter chairman, Mr Anthony Komla Dagbey, better known as Tony D, his meeting with Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, chairman of the Volta Caucus in Parliament went well.“He said the quest to get equipment for the region was a laudable project .
We need GH¢60,000 and I explained to him they could make personal contributions or lobby corporate bodies and other individuals to help us raise the funds.
He promised to rally around his colleagues to see what they could do,” Tony D told The Mirror.
Tony D pointed out that his outfit would use the equipment to set up a rehearsal centre for musicians in the region and also create a regional band.
“Our idea is to offer free tuition for our members who want to learn music theory and how to play an instrument.
A good grasp of music theory and efficient handling of instruments would help members become better musicians,” he stated.
The Volta MUSIGA intends to put money to be raised from the upcoming launch of its ‘Volta Music Project – Compilation Volume 1’ album to the equipment-acquisition fund.
The album is a collection of songs recorded by 10 artistes from the region selected through a region-wide talent hunt organised by Volta MUSIGA in collaboration with StandOut Entertainment GH.
The songs were produced and mixed by the famous Appietus.
“We see the album launch as a first step towards helping ourselves to achieve something dear to our hearts. The young talents in the region must have the right foundation so they can mature into great acts.
We need to acquire instruments to help in that process,” Tony D said.
Music on the album covers a wide range of contemporary styles. It showcases what exciting stuff talents in the Volta Region are capable of coming out with, given appropriate guidance and support.
Artistes featured in the collection are JC Dyck, Agbeshie, JJ Gonami, Kayrien, Everyday, Seyfame, Remy J, Kasare, Prizeless and Gospel Teacher.
