Upper Manya assembly rehabilitates roads
The Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly has in the past two years rehabilitated a number of feeder roads in the area to facilitate the transportation of foodstuffs to marketing centers.
Some of the rehabilitated roads are the 14-kilometre Asesewa-Fefe road and others linking Sekesua to Nsutapong as well as numerous villages and hamlets.
The district which was carved out of the Manya Krobo District about five years ago is primarily rural with most of the inhabitants engaged in the production of maize, cocoyam, yam and oil palm.
However,the bad nature of the roads have made it difficult for the farmers to market their produce.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, made the rehabilitation of the roads known at the inauguration of an Area Council office at Konkoney-Sisiamang, one of the farming communities, at the weekend.
He said since the area’s bad roads had been one of the major challenges for the farmers, the assembly had to acquire its own grader to recondition the roads with many of them now in good shape.
He said the assembly was rehabilitating a number of boreholes at Sekesua, the second biggest foodstuff marketing centre in the district, and deprived communities such as Mensa-Dawa and Bormase.
On education, Mr Tetteh Angmor said apart from rehabilitating a number of dilapidated classroom blocks and building new ones, 6,000 dual and mono desks had been distributed to all basic schools in the area.
The number of schools benefiting from the School Feeding Programme, he also indicated, had been increased from one to 16, and named schools at Bisa, Djomoa, Ternguanya, Ketedom, Otrokpe and Bormase, all deprived communities as some of the beneficiary communities.
The DCE who dwelt extensively on the development programme of the assembly, which according to him, was on course told the gathering that the assembly was taking steps to offer office accommodation to all area councils in the area to promote good governance and grassroot participation.
