After evading the police for more than a year, two suspected armed robbers who have also been accused of sexually assaulting their victims have finally been arrested by the police in Kumasi.

Kwabena Oppong alias Kubi, 23, and Kofi Owusu Ansah, also known as Nanaba, 28, who have been on the police wanted list for more than a year, were apprehended by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Police in connection with another stealing case.

 Sexual assault

In August last year, the two suspects, together with Kelvin Adjei Frimpong, who has been remanded, attacked the house of a complainant at Gyinyase in Kumasi.

They robbed the victim of GH¢1, 600, her wedding ring and a wallet containing an unspecified amount belonging to the victim’s husband.

The suspects further ordered the victim and her 14-year old daughter to strip naked after which they inserted their fingers into their private parts and tried to have sex with them.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, Chief Inspector Godwin Ahianyo, Deputy Ashanti Regional Public Affairs Officer, said since the arrest of the gang leader, the two accomplices had been on the police wanted list.

He also said on Wednesday, October 14, the Regional Criminal Investigations Department had information that the two had been arrested by the KNUST Police in connection with a stealing case.

According to him, the two were brought to the regional office where an identification parade was carried out and they were duly identified by their victims.

The two were alleged to have admitted to being part of the gang that robbed the household at Gyinyase last year.

He said the two would soon be arraigned on armed robbery and sexual assault charges.
