NGO, church construct children’s facility for Suhum Govt Hospital

The Suhum Government Hospital is to benefit from a $1 million children's hospital facility .

The 65-bed facility is to be constructed by Love Without Walls, a non-governmental organisation based in the United States in collaboration with the Restoration Missions International Ghana of the Suhum Assemblies of God Church.

At a ceremony to cut the sod for the commencement of the project at Suhum last Saturday, the team leader of the USA -based NGO, Dr Hartford Dawson, said the idea to construct the facility was mooted last year when a team of missionaries visited the children's ward of the Suhum Government Hospital.

 Congestion

During the visit, he said the team observed that the ward was very congested, thus compounding the problems of the children.

When completed in three years, he said the facility would be equipped to address the needs of children of Suhum and its surrounding towns and villages.

"We must ensure that children are well protected because healthy children are the products of healthy nation and the future", he added.

A member of the team, Bishop Curtis Douglas, said the NGO would do what was humanely possible for the project to succeed.

"Every dime raised is not going to anybody's pocket but to the project and children of this area", he stated.

The Head Pastor of the Suhum Assemblies of God Church, Reverend James Amoako, said the project was the church's contribution towards health are delivery in the area.

He said the NGO had also provided a borehole for the church's school which is to serve the community and the school.

 Rev Amoako commended

The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Mr Fredrick Opare Ansah, commended Rev. James Amoako for his role in bringing the project to Suhum and hoped it would go a long way to promote the health of children in the Suhum Municipality.

For his part, the Suhum Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Kwabi, stressed the need for the state and church to collaborate to bring development to the people.
