Tip-off
The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah, told the Daily Graphic that the police had a tip-off that some people at Portor had a cache of arms and ammunition which they intended using.
According to him, based on that information, the police, on June 30, 2016, conducted a random search in the community and, in the course of it, retrieved two AK 47 assault rifles and 200 bullets from Kande’s room.
A search in a room, occupied by Jabuni and Samed in another house, also led to the retrieval of two single-barrelled guns and eight cartridges.
Remand
The three were, consequently, arrested and sent to the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Headquarters for further investigations.
The suspects appeared before a Sunyani Magistrate’s Court yesterday and were charged with possession of arms and ammunition without lawful authority and remanded in police custody to reappear on Friday, July 8, 2016.
Chieftaincy conflict
A number of people have either died or got injured from a series of chieftaincy conflicts at Portor.
The latest conflict heppened early this year, which required security beef-up in the town.
As a result of the conflict, schools were closed down and there was shortage of food because people in the area were afraid to go to their farms to harvest crops.
