Six JHSs get laptops

Six junior high schools (JHSs) in the Adaklu District have been presented with eight laptops each to advance the study of Information Technology (IT) in schools.

The schools are Goefe, Waya, Wumenu, Abuadi, Apatove and Kordiabe JHSs.

The laptops were donated to the Adaklu District Assembly by the Ghana Investment Centre for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).

Making a presentation at the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) JHS at Adaklu Waya, the Adaklu District Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Sky Ganaku, said the donation re-emphasised the vision of the district assembly to make education a priority and a heritage for the people.

He said information communications technology (ICT) contributed immensely to the growth of every economy, hence the need to make the study of the subject a major priority now to make meaningful impact on the country’s socio-economic development.

Mr Ganaku said that was why it had been introduced at the basic level to enable pupils to be acquainted with the use of computers before they advanced to the secondary and tertiary levels of their education as well as the world of work.

Computer literacy

He said computer literacy could help them cope with the technology associated with industry and advised that the computers should not be kept in cupboards but should be used for practical lessons.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Godson Kofi Akorli, thanked the district assembly and GIFEC and gave an assurance that the computers would be put to good use.

He suggested that teachers should also be considered in the distribution of computers to make the study more relevant in schools.
