Remain disciplined, focused- Rawlings advises Dobgoe
Former President Jerry John Rawlings has urged new World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Bantamweight champion, Isaac Dogboe, to equip himself with a new level of discipline and a higher level of spiritual focus so he can successfully defend the title he has won as well as remain on top for as long as legend Azumah Nelson did.
Flt Lt Rawlings who has supported Dogboe since he turned pro, said it was important that Dogboe and his team adopted Azumah Nelson as a mentor so he could impart his deep insights and spiritual influence to the new champion.
Welcoming Dogboe and his Rising Star Promotion team to his residence last Thursday, Flt Rawlings said he was proud of Dogboe’s achievement so far and reassured him of his continued support as he seeks to attain greater heights in his fledging career.
While congratulating Dogboe for defeating Jesse Magdaleno in Philiadelphia about a month ago, the former President stated that the most important asset the new champion required was the discipline to be able to hold onto the title for as long as possible. He confessed however, that unlike other boxing bouts, he had such confidence in Dogboe that he never felt uneasy or nervous when Isaac was going into a fight.
“Winning the title is like winning power. It also has a way of corrupting you. The danger is you can adopt an easy attitude after the victory and lose it all. The secret, is in sport, only hardwork, discipline and dedication can keep you at the top for a long time for as long as you are focused. ” he cautioned.
Dogboe in response, said he had drawn so much inspiration from the former President and being his number one supporter, it was important to touch base after being crowned world champion.
