
Rainstorm displaces residents of Wa
About 1,000 residents have been displaced in the Wa municipality following a rainstorm that has damaged homes, schools and other properties worth nearly GH¢1 million.
Two persons who were injured when a wall collapsed on them in their home have since been treated and discharged from the Wa Hospital.
Damage
The storm caused extensive damage in eight communities in the municipality.They are Dobile, Mangu, the Sombo Residential Area, Fongo, Kumbiahi, Chorkor, Kambalipaani and Kpaguri.
Officials put the cost of damage at about GH¢800,000.

In one instance, a farmer lost 450 live birds and 39 goats.
Properties damaged included three schools, electricity poles, a 16-seater public place of convenience and a mosque.
Appeal
The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, has, consequently, appealed for financial and logistical support from individuals and corporate bodies to enable the assembly to support the victims.
He said the assembly, in collaboration with the municipal directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), was in the process of distributing food, mattresses, blankets and other household wares to victims.
"The scale of the disaster is so extensive that it will cost us about GH¢800,000 to stabilise families and households affected by the disaster," he told the media following the assembly's Disaster Management Committee's emergency meeting on the situation.
The Wa Municipal NADMO Coordinator, Mr Salahudeen Bin Alhassan, said his organisation was taking measures to lessen the plight of the victims.
