NGOs provide solar-powered borehole for Akwamu community

The Pinasol Foundation, in collaboration with Wilde Ganzen and iMPACT Direct Foundation, has provided a mechanised borehole for the people of Akwamu in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region.

The initiative aims to address the perennial water challenges in the community by providing potable water, thereby improving the health and well-being of residents.

To ensure uninterrupted water supply, the facility is solar-powered and features a 5,000-litre reservoir to sustain water generation.

The inauguration of the water facility was met with overwhelming excitement, as residents who had been on their way to the farm rushed back to witness the event. Many turned up with gallons in hand, eager to fetch water for their homes.

The Dumakwahene, Nana Aduse Poku, chaired the event, which was also attended by Baah Akyemfuor, Board Chairman of Pinasol, public officials, and Dr Rashida Ibrahim from Pinasol. Others present included Apostle Solomon Okyere Asiamah.

Speaking on behalf of the District Coordinating Director, Elvis Boateng described the borehole as a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of working together to bring positive change to local communities.

He acknowledged that access to clean and safe water is a basic human right, yet many residents in the district still struggle to obtain this essential resource.

"The installation of this solar mechanised water system will not only improve the quality of life for the residents of Akwamu but also promote health and sanitation in the community," he stated, commending the donors for their timely intervention.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the community, Nana Aduse Poku assured the donors that he would personally oversee the project’s maintenance and ensure it is used for its intended purpose.

"I am short of words. This is indeed a happy day for the people of Akwamu," he joyfully declared, adding that the project was a timely intervention that would free residents from the struggle for potable drinking water.

The provision of this solar-powered borehole is expected to significantly enhance access to clean water, reduce waterborne diseases, and improve the overall quality of life for the people of Akwamu.
