Pastor Otabil urges strict law enforcement for national devt
The Chancellor of Central University, Rev. Dr Mensa Otabil, has said that the country’s laws must be enforced rigorously to engender discipline and positive results in the efforts at national development.
He said if statutory laws would be supported by strict enforcement in the form of the enforcement of stringent laws on the environment, sanitation, mining and forest resources, the country would enjoy accelerated development.
Dr Otabil, who is also the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church, said these when he delivered an institutional lecture at the Miotso Campus of the Central University, near Tema, in the Greater Accra Region, last Wednesday.
He spoke on the topic: “How to bring about change in Africa — Some fundamental considerations”.

Dr Otabil called on the state and other stakeholders to play their roles towards the enforcement of laws to make the society a better place for all to thrive and develop in.
“Until people have a consciousness to act intentionally and purposefully, they cannot generate development,” he said, adding that “when people are conscious of doing the right things, the country will develop.”

Challenges
Dr Otabil said the African continent was faced with pressing challenges, and indicated that Africa needed leaders who were able to think in diverse and daring ways and to adopt the right solutions to the myriad of challenges facing the continent.
To address this, Dr Otabil recommended adopting a culture of precision and accuracy, creating a future-minded culture, and fostering a culture of cause and effect in driving sustainable solutions for Africa’s challenges.
“We must begin to create a future-minded culture.
This means, every generation must be obsessed with how to protect the generation after them, and how to make life better for the future generation,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of Central University, Professor Bill B. Puplampu, who chaired the event, said the Institutional Lecture was designed to enable staff, faculty members and students of the university to engage, discuss and debate critical issues of national concern.
