Newark city honours First Lady
The First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, has been honoured by the city of Newark in the United States of America for her humanitarian work and dedication to Ghanaians and the Ghanaian community in the city of Newark.
She was presented with a citation for her commitment towards supporting orphans and vulnerable persons in society through her foundation, the Lordina Foundation.
Mrs Mahama was also given unfettered access to the State of New Jersey as part of the package for her hard work in Ghana and beyond.
Mayor of Newark city
The award was presented by the Mayor of the City of Newark in the State of New Jersey, Mr Ras J. Baraka, at a ceremony to mark the third anniversary of the naming of a street “Ghanaian Way” in the City of Newark. It is dedicated to the Ghanaian community for their contribution to the development of the city.

The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kwadwo Adjei Agyekum, and the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, received the award on behalf of the First Lady.
Mrs Mahama has over the years exhibited her passion and love for children, the vulnerable and women by contributing immensely to their welfare.
Lordina Foundation
The Lordina Foundation, formerly known as Alternative Source of Income Programme (ASOIP), has supported brilliant, needy children through scholarships to further their education.
Under the leadership of Mrs Mahama, the foundation has adopted the Gambaga Witches camp in the Northern Region, where the inmates have been accused of witchcraft and declared outcasts by their communities and families.
The First Lady has also donated medical supplies worth millions of cedis to 20 district hospitals in the Northern, Volta, Western, Central and Greater Accra regions to complement the efforts of the government at providing healthcare for the people.
Regarding Ghanaians residents in Newark, Mrs Mahama has contributed to their welfare by uniting Ghanaians and the Americans through educational, cultural and economic projects in the city.
