Nerebehi school closed down
Authorities of the Nerebehi R.C. Junior High School (JHS) in the Atwima Nwabiagya District in the Ashanti Region have closed down the school following continuous defecation in the classrooms by unidentified persons.
According to the school administration, for the 25th time last Thursday, human excreta was spread on tables, chairs and the black boards, as well as on the walls.
The odour emanating from the faeces was so offensive that the administration decided to close down the school after consultation with the district directorate of education.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Nana Asare Bediako, confirmed in an interview with the Graphic Online that the issue has been brought to his attention.
“I am going to the town (Nerebehi) with the district director of education to assess the situation and find a solution,” he said.
Nana Bediako said he did not understand why people could go to such “crazy limits” and gave an assurance that the assembly would work with the chiefs and the local leaders to arrest the situation.
The Assistant Headmaster of the School, Mr Felix Agyen Frimpong, said the situation had become unbearable and they had no choice but to close the school.
He added that for some time now pupils had been coming to the school to see faecal matter spread in the classrooms.
“Any time we come to school to meet this, we have to organise the children to clean the school at the risk of their health.
“But the last one, which resulted in the closure of the school, was too unbearable and we thought the best thing to do was to close down the school to strongly signal our disapproval of what has been going on,” he said.
