Mining company supports Amadaa community

A Private mining company, E. K. Agyemang Mining Group Limited, has connected the entire Amadaa community in the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region to the national grid.

Additionally, the company has constructed a mechanised borehole as part of its contribution to the development of the community in which it operates.

The two projects cost GH¢150,000 and were undertaken after consultation with the chiefs and people of the area who asked for electricity supply and a borehole in addition to the only one that supplied the entire community with water.

Seek consent

Inaugurating the projects, the Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission (MC), Dr Tony Aubyn, commended the company for living harmoniously with the community leaders and members and described its gesture as an example that must be emulated by other mining companies.

He called on mining companies to always ensure that they sought the consent and authority of the local people and owners of the land, as well as authorisation of state agencies mandated to regulate mining and its activities.

He said with such approval, the commission could assist them in engaging in sustainable mining, especially in ensuring that their activities did not destroy the environment while they would also reclaimed the land for productive use after their activities.

Mr Aubyn expressed at some mining entities that engaged in destructive mining activities at the blind side of both communities and authorities and destroyed the environment, and urged community members to always report such entities to the appropriate authorities for swift action.

He announced that the commission would soon register all mining entities, irrespective of their size in the country, and build a database and provide them with the appropriate training and technical assistance to engage in mining that would not harm the environment.

Chief executive

The Chief Executive of the mining company, Mr Emmanuel Kwabena Agyemang, said his company had been in the community in the last three years and described the relationship between his outfit and the people of the area as very successful.

He challenged the people to use the electricity for productive ventures to improve their economic well-being.

The Odikro of Amadaa, Nana Oteng Mensah, praised the mining company for connecting the community to the national grid and also continuously upgrading the road leading to the town, gestures he described as filfilling the dreams of citizens.

He, however, appealed to the company and other organisations to assist the community in building a new school block for the community.
