BCI, Peace and Love donate items to hospitals
Breast Care International (BCI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), in partnership with Peace and Love Hospitals (PHLs), has donated assorted drugs to 15 hospitals to facilitate healthcare services at those facilities.
The drugs, including 7,680 bottles of Risperdal for schizophrenia and bipolar disease, were valued at GH¢4,684.
The beneficiary facilities are Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Tamale General Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Tafo Government Hospital.
The others are Mampong Municipal Hospital, New Edubiase Government Hospital, Konongo-Odumasi Government Hospital, Ejisu Government Hospital and Bekwai Municipal Hospital.
The rest are Juabeng Government Hospital, St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital, Ejura Government Hospital, Willingway Foundation and Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
The donation was in line with the corporate social responsibility of the two entities.
Making the presentation to representatives of the hospitals at the Peace and Love Hospital at Oduom in Kumasi, the President of BCI and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peace and Love Hospital, Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, said the donation marked another milestone and commitment by the two benefactors to make good their corporate social responsibility in reaching out to the needy and marginalised in society.
She expressed worry about the reported inadequate funding of the mental health sector, poor logistics and public apathy towards providing the basic needs of psychiatric facilities and patients.
Conscious of those challenges, Dr Wiafe Addai said the management of BCI periodically solicited high-quality psychiatric drugs from abroad and distributed them to help cure mental health patients.
Mr Emmanuel Bortey, the Head of the Pharmacy Department at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, who received the donation on behalf of the hospital, expressed appreciation to their benefactors for their support and pledged that the items would be used for the intended purpose.
