Melcom Foundation supports four institutions

Melcom Care Foundation, a philanthropic arm of the Melcom Group of Companies, has presented assorted items to four institutions and a student as part of its corporate social responsibility. The items included bags of rice, cooking oil, cooking utensils, detergents, toiletries, tooth paste and brushes, sound systems and clothes.

The beneficiary institutions are the Nsawam Prison, Sekendi Female Prison,  Kokrokoo Charities and Ocean Broadcasting. A student, Felix Kwakye of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) also benefited.

The Director of Communications of Melcom Group, Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, made the presentation in Accra and said the gesture was aimed at supporting the institutions to enable them to meet some of their basic needs.

Mothers Day

According to Mr Avenorgbo, the foundation undertook the donation regularly but this year’s event was focused on the Mother’s Day celebration.

“Melcom Care Foundation has been set up to make an impact on the communities we serve. So this is part of our social responsibility to the society and that is the essence of making this donation,” he added.

Recipients

For his part, the Executive Director, Africa Centre for International Law and Accountability (ACILA), Mr William Nyarko, who received the items on behalf of the Sekondi Female Prison, said the items would help in meeting some of the basic needs of the female inmates.

“We will make sure that the real recipients will be the female prisoners not anybody else,” he assured.

He said ACILA would continue to support prisoners as well as equip them with skills that would enable them to earn a decent living when they were released
He, therefore, urged individuals, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and institutions to support the needy in the society to enable them to enjoy a decent life.

Gratitude

The beneficiary institutions took turns to express gratitude to the Melcom Care Foundation for its continuous support and assistance to the less privileged in society.
