President Mahama appeals for lasting peace in Bawku, calls for unity

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the people of Bawku and its surrounding areas to embrace lasting peace, following decades of chieftaincy disputes that have resulted in numerous casualties.

“The people of Bawku and other areas, it is time for lasting peace to prevail,” he stated.

Speaking not just as President, but as their “son and brother”, Mahama expressed deep concern for the region and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering harmony and reconciliation.

Addressing the nation at the 68th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House, he acknowledged the pain and divisions caused by past conflicts, but urged the people to “give renewal of friendship a chance” and “give peace a chance.”

He emphasised that future generations deserve to inherit a land of opportunity and unity, rather than one defined by conflict and division.

President Mahama described this moment as an opportunity to move beyond past grievances, calling on all stakeholders to work collectively toward peace, stability, and development.
