Kasapreko to support cardio centre with GH¢100,000 annually

Kasapreko Company Limited, a local alcoholic beverage firm, has announced a GH¢100,000 annual support for needy cardiothoracic patients in the country.

The gesture by the company, which forms part of its corporate social responsibility, is the single major support for the heart foundation and marks a significant breakthrough in the foundation’s quest to raise sufficient funds to support the treatment of patients in critical conditions.

Currently, there are more than 100 hole-in-heart children whose bills have to be substantially catered for by the centre.

Source of funds

The company, which recently expanded its production capacity and added new production lines, has decided to set aside GH¢0.02 per bottle of “Awake” mineral water to support the Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The management of Kasapreko, therefore, expects that the 2 Gp per bottle of water would yield GH¢100,000 to support their cause every year.

Donation
The Chairman of the company, Dr Kwabena Agyei, announced the package when Kasapreko made a seed donation of GH¢20,000 to the centre.

Touched by the plight of the some of the patients at the wards of the centre, Dr Adjei personally pledged to support the centre with GH¢60,000.

The chairman indicated that the mineral water was aimed at not only refreshing customers but also saving lives.

He, therefore, called on the public to patronise the water because by doing so, they would be supporting a good cause.

Gratitude
The Director at the cardio centre, Dr Lawrence Siriboe, expressed gratitude to Kasapreko and entreated other companies to emulate the humanitarian gesture.

He said the number of patients at the centre kept increasing, with majority of them being children who could not foot their bills.

Dr Siriboe said the average cost for a hole-in-heart surgery was US$6,000, which he observed was a problem for many patients.
