Kaizen Aid marks International Women’s Day with deaf learners in Cape Coast

The Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind hosted a special event to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 on Monday, March 10, 2025.

Organised by Kaizen Aid, the programme engaged 45 Deaf learners in discussions and activities aimed at promoting gender equality and inclusivity.

The event commenced with a session introducing the students to the significance of IWD and the need for gender parity. This was followed by an open discussion, where learners shared instances of gender inequality within their school environment. Another session encouraged conversations on why girls should be given equal opportunities as boys.

To reinforce the theme of the day, the students participated in a word-search puzzle, designed to help them learn new vocabulary related to gender equality and empowerment.

At the end of the event, the Headmaster, Abraham Annang Yemoson, urged students to ensure female participation in school activities, assuring them that the staff and management were committed to creating a more inclusive environment.

The Programmes Manager of Kaizen Aid, Mr. Anthony Asante Addo, in his closing remarks, encouraged the girls not to let their hearing impairment hinder their academic aspirations. He also emphasised the importance of reading as a tool for gaining knowledge and improving vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Kaizen Aid, a child education non-profit organisation, is dedicated to empowering underprivileged children through education. Their “Learning Continues After Closing Bell” initiative provides supplementary learning support for children, while the “inspirED to Read” project at the Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind focuses on enhancing literacy and visual skills among Deaf learners.

With ongoing interventions such as extra tuition in mathematics, English, and science, Kaizen Aid continues to bridge educational gaps and create equal learning opportunities for all children.
