"Bring club-level dedication to the national team" – President Mahama urges Black Stars players
President John Dramani Mahama has urged players of the Black Stars to bring the same dedication and commitment they show at their respective clubs to the national team.
President Mahama believes that with unwavering dedication, the Black Stars can overcome Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, potentially earning forgiveness from Ghanaians for their disappointing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) performance.
The President made these comments during a visit to the team's training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, ahead of their match against Chad on Friday.
“It takes sacrifice, it takes strength. We all enjoy watching you play for your clubs, and we expect you to bring that same level of dedication to the national team,” President Mahama said.

He also stressed the importance of discipline, hard work, and unity, reminding the players that these values are key to achieving success.
Ghana will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, with a second match against Madagascar set for Monday, March 24, in Morocco.
With nine points from four matches, the Black Stars are level with Comoros, having secured three wins and one defeat. Ghana's qualifying campaign began with a 1-0 win over Madagascar, followed by a loss to Comoros.
However, they bounced back with successive wins over Mali and the Central African Republic in June of the previous year.
