Ideal Finance supports GJA awards with two cars

Ideal Finance, an investment and loan finance company, has presented two vehicles to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to be given to the Overall Best Journalist of the year and the Best Financial Reporter in this year’s awards.

The overall best journalist will go home with a brand new SUV Hyundai Creta, while the best financial reporter will receive a Hyundai i10.

This will be the first time the GJA will be presenting a vehicle to the overall winner since it took over the organisation of the awards from the Ministry of Information.

At the presentation ceremony in Accra yesterday, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Groupe Ideal, Dr Nii Kotei Dzani, said the gesture was aimed at encouraging journalists and the media to pursue excellence and hard work.

“The role the media, particularly journalists, play is crucial in every nation. Without them, the entire nation will operate in blindness,” he said.

Talking about what motivated him to support the GJA, Dr Dzani said he had witnessed on many  occasions some erroneous news that went viral.

He said wrong reportage, particularly in the financial sector of the country’s economy, could affect businesses and investment.

“I realised that we need to support journalists because without them, nothing can work,” Dr Dzani added.

He, therefore, called on the media to collaborate with Ideal Group of Companies to ensure that the best was achieved in the country.

GJA grateful

The President of the GJA, Mr Affrail Monney, who received the vehicles on behalf of the association, commended Dr Dzani for the support his company had offered to the media.

He said such support would boost the morale of journalists, considering the high risk they encountered on a daily basis in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Monney said the gesture would also spur journalists on to pursue professionalism.

He urged journalists to refrain from acts  that could harm the country’s stability during this year’s general election.

GJA awards

The GJA awards is an annual event that seeks to honour and reward hardworking journalists and media houses.

Interested journalists are expected to file stories and articles that made news and created impact for the year under review.

A committee, made up of renowned experts, is selected to shortlist the best news stories and articles for the awards.

This year’s awards event, which will take place on August 20, 2016, has the theme:’’ The Media for Undisputed and Peaceful 2016 Election: the Support of Civil Society.”
