Mr Onyango, who is in charge of Management Information Systems, therefore, lauded the participants who made themselves available at the first half of a four-week training course on the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Agreement on Customs Valuation, Expanding the Knowledge Base.
“We at ICS are privileged to be able to contribute in our own small way to the transfer of ‘know-how’ in Valuation to enhance your abilities,” he said.
The two-week course was attended by 29 participants from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Economic and Organised Crime Office, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and ICS.
The course is a continuous improvement regimen of ICS as part of a contractual obligation to train stakeholders to make the right judgement for importers and the government in terms of revenue generation.
“Imparting this knowledge to you will enable you to undertake your revenue collection duties with confidence in order to impact positively on national development.
“This is what the ICS Group seeks to do anywhere around the world where it is contracted,” he noted.
Mr Onyango said the knowledge gained from ICS training programmes would go a long way to improve organisational excellence as well as enhance revenue generation.
Mr Imoru Farouk Adam, the Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Operations, Customs Division of GRA, said valuation was a core function of customs and commended ICS for taking its contractual obligation of knowledge transfer seriously.
He said the certificates the participants had received were not just papers, but testaments to show that they were well equipped with knowledge in Valuation, one of the core functions of customs.
“Valuation goes with Classification, so I am happy to learn that ICS has plans to organise a Classification training programme next week,” he added.
Ms Akua Mpiani-Brobbe, the Course Prefect, noted: “The course is very insightful and beneficial to participants as we have been exposed to the new trends and best practice in Customs Valuation.”
Mr Shaju Jose Vallapy of the ICS Kuwait, facilitated the course.
ICS has over the years developed into a world-wide organisation with expertise in specialised technology and a creative and practical system for providing valuation assistance to customs organisations in accordance with WTO and World Customs Organisation guidelines.
