‘Use Eid-ul-Adha festival to reach out to poor, disadvantaged’

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Alhaji Hanan Abdul-Wahab, has entreated the Muslim community in the Upper East Region to use the Eid-ul- Adha celebration to reach out to the poor and the disadvantaged in the society.

He explained that during that time of the Islamic religious obligation, it was important to exhibit the spirit of giving and sacrifice as a way of supporting one another to experience the blessings and joy that comes with the Eid celebrations.

This was contained in a speech read on behalf of the CEO by the Upper East Regional Manager of NAFCO, Mr Abdulai Mohammed Saani, at separate ceremonies to present a total of 350 bags of rice to the Muslim community as well as New Patriotic Party (NPP) regional and constituency executives in Bolgatanga and Bawku Municipalities in the Upper East Region.

According to Alhaji Abdul-Wahab, the donation was intended to support the Muslim celebrants to enjoy the Islamic festival of sacrifice that was observed globally yesterday.
                                                                         
Bolgatanga

At Bolgatanga, the Assistant Upper East Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mr Elvis Awonekai, accompanied by the regional research and elections officer, Alhaji Amadu Bagaya, and the regional treasurer of the party, Mr Joseph Akanfaba, received 150 bags of the rice for distribution to the Muslim community and party members in Bolgatanga.

Bawku

At Bawku, the Chairman of Ansarul Islam, a Muslim group, Alhaji Umar Ustarz, received 100 bags on behalf of the Muslim community.

The remaining 100 bags were donated to the NPP in the Bawku Constituency and received by the Constituency Chairman of the party, Mr Yussif Amandi. Present were the Treasurer, Mr Dawda Yirimea, and the Communication Officer of the party in the constituency, Mr Nurudeen Alhassan.                                                                    
                                                                      
Appreciation

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Awonekia expressed appreciation to their benefactor.

He observed that Alhaji Abdul-Wahab had made it his duty to commit resources both in cash and in kind towards the celebration of such festivities in the region annually.
