New lecture hall for Akoefe Artillery Training School

A GH¢264,373 lecture hall has been inaugurated for the Artillery Training School at Akoefe, near Ho.

The Gunners Hall, as it was christened, has a capacity of 60 and was inaugurated last Thursday.

Before the inauguration, the Commanding Officer of the Southern Command, Brigadier-General Samuel Asare, said the new hall represented a step towards improving learning and teaching at the school.

“It will provide students with the appropriate space to absorb knowledge, refine skills and grow into capable, effective and efficient specialist personnel that Ghana needs and a platform for instructors to deliver lessons with greater impact,” he added.

Brigadier-General Asare called on students and instructors to handle the facility with utmost care.

He paid glowing tribute to the Commanding Officer of the Artillery Training School, Lt. Col. Patrick Atuiri for his sterling leadership, initiative and vision for seeing the project through to completion.

The General Officer Commanding the Southern Command also acknowledged the tremendous financial support provided by the Ghana Artillery Officers Association and the GLICO Group Company Limited towards the execution of the project and expressed gratitude to the artillery officers, as well as Cephas K. Construction Limited, for their generous donations towards the project.

Testimony

The President of the Ghana Artillery Officers’ Association, Brigadier-General Nicholas Kporku, said the hall bore ample testimony to the spirit of unity and progress within the artillery corps.

“The bond that exists within the artillery fraternity is truly remarkable; it is a bond built through experiences, the pursuit of excellence and a deep commitment to the defence of our great nation,” he added.

Brigadier-General Kporku said the association understood the importance of the training school in shaping and nurturing the skills and capabilities of artillery personnel and would always commit zeal and resources to its progress.

“Continue to strive for excellence, knowing that you have the unwavering support of the Ghana Artillery Officers Association and the entire artillery fraternity.

“Your work is vital in shaping the future of our armed forces and we applaud your commitment to cultivating the next generation of artillery officers and soldiers,” Brigadier-General Kporku entreated the officers and soldiers of the school.

Huge relief

Lt. Col. Atuiri said the school earlier had two lecture halls that could accommodate a maximum of 30 and 24 students.

He said that limited the slots allocated to the Artillery Regiment and other units for courses.

Lt. Col. Atuiri said the new lecture hall, which came with an instructors’ common room, training warrant officers’ office and two ablution units for males and females, was, therefore, a huge relief to the school.

He thanked the commander of the Army Training Command for supporting and facilitating the completion of the lecture hall.
