New Kwahumanhene pledges to improve agric, other sectors

The Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, has expressed his readiness to boost agriculture, sports and entrepreneurship in the Kwahu enclave in the Eastern Region.

That, he indicated, would further uplift the cultural, agricultural and entrepreneurial development of the area.

The Omanhene said these at his coronation marked by a grand durbar of chiefs and people of Kwahu at Abene, the seat of the paramountcy.

In attendance were all the divisional chiefs, notably the Abetifihene, Akyemfuo Asiedu Agyeman III, who is also the Adontenhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area, sub-chiefs and queenmothers in the area.

Also present were the Mamfehene, Osabarima Ansah Sasraku III, who is also the Kyidomhene of Akuapem, a delegation from the Office of former President John Agyekum Kufour, family and friends of the Omanhene and Kwahu indigenes from home and abroad.

Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng, known in private life as Baffour Akoto Osei, a civil engineer, succeeded Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, who ruled for seven years.

Colourful ceremony

The splendid and colourful ceremony, characterised by traditional dance performances, highlighted the rich Kwahu culture.

Daasebre Boateng stated that his vision was to unite the people, and that he would help to promote the entrepreneurial growth of the people because Kwahus were noted for their commitment to trade and its related sectors.

Agriculture

On agriculture, he said he would lead the chiefs of the area who had already started farming on a 200-acre land.

To that end, the Omanhene said he would encourage the five Members of Parliament (MPs) in the area to set up two agricultural mechanisation centres to support farmers to achieve maximum yield of their products.

Non-governmental organisations, Daasebre Boateng emphasised, would also be engaged to implement community-based agricultural schemes backed by fair and equitable marketing structures.

Okwahu United

With regard to sports in the area, Daasebre Boateng further stated that his outfit would revitalise the Okwahu United Football Club, which would be 50 years this year, to stand on its feet as one of the strong football clubs in the region and in the country as a whole.

He, therefore, urged Kwahu indigenes to join the chiefs to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the football club to encourage the youth, especially footballers in the area, to commit to the club.

That, he said, would make it possible for the club to get back to the premiership.

He expressed his appreciation to the dignitaries, invited guests, chiefs, Kwahu indigenes and all those who attended the durbar to make it grand.

Support

The Abetifihene, Akyemfuo Agyeman, who acted as the Omanhene prior to the installation of the substantive Omanhene, solicited support from the divisional chiefs, sub-chiefs, queenmothers and all the people of Kwahu for the Omanhene.

That, he stated, would enable the Omanhene to fulfil his vision of developing the Kwahu enclave.

Challenges

Akyemfuo Agyeman said supporting the Omanhene would quicken the realisation of his vision, and called on the people to pray for the new Omanhene to enable him to succeed.

"Now that we have a new Omanhene, let's all support him to implement his development agenda for the growth and prosperity of the area.”

"Whether you are a chief, clergyman, imam or traditional priest, let’s all support the new Omanhene to succeed," Akyemfuo Agyeman told the gathering.

The Queenmother of Kwahu, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III, dwelt on peace and unity and asked all the indigenes of Kwahu, particularly the chiefs, to bury their differences and forge ahead to develop the traditional area.
