
Interior Minister donates to Prisons Service
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak , has donated assorted food items to the Ghana Prisons Service to support inmates’ feeding for the Ramadan season at the Prisons Headquarters.
The items included 1,000 25kg bags of rice, 417 boxes of cooking oil, and 200 boxes of processed tomato products.
The gesture forms part of the minister’s efforts to support and equip the Ghana Prisons Service and make it efficient. ‘I reached out to Mr Ibrahim Mahama, a global businessman and philanthropist to support prison inmates during this Ramadan period, and my request was granted, hence the donation of these items, ’ he added.
Reiterating his promise to support the Prisons Service, the minister hinted about the presentation of 15 pick-up vehicles to the Ghana Prisons Service out of a total of 50 pick-up vehicles that would be distributed by the Interior Ministry in the course of time.

The Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, acknowledged the minister’s willingness and undoubted quest to support the Prisons Service, and expressed gratitude for the opportunity handed to her recently to serve as the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service.
Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie further explained the need for all officers to receive contagious allowance and pleaded with the minister to facilitate the restoration of some operational allowances for officers in the Ghana Prisons Service.
The Director-General hinted at some strategic innovations that would support the vision of the minister in making the Prison Service an enviable institution in Ghana.
She assured the minister of the preparedness and readiness of the Prisons Administration and staff to support his vision, and to work assiduously to achieve the mandate of the service and give it a global recognition.
The items are expected to be presented to selected prison facilities, including the Nsawam Medium Security, the Ankaful Complex, the Koforidua Local, the Tamale Central, Sunyani Central, Amanfrom Camp and Manhyia Local prisons.
