Graphic Need Fund launches fundraising
The Graphic Needy Trust Fund (GNTF) last Sunday launched a nationwide campaign to raise funds to help needy patients access medical treatment.
The launch, at the Adabraka Official Town Presbyterian Church, will enable the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL) to partner churches, private sector players, institutions and organisations as well as individuals to build a seed fund of GH¢500,000 in five months to foot medical bills of needy patients to enable them to survive life-threatening illnesses.
The fund
The Chairman of the GNTF, Mr Emmanuel Agyei Arthur, explained that the Graphic Group set up the fund to help needy patients who might die because they suffered from illnesses which treatment they could not afford.
He recounted how a five-year-old girl lost her life to cancer because her parents could not raise money to pay for her chemotherapy.
"On the other hand, another child, a boy, suffering from the same cancer of the eye survived because kind people like you came to his aid in time,” Mr Arthur added.
Compassion for the needy
He urged the congregation to have compassion for individuals who needed such treatments, adding that God blessed those who donated to such worthy causes.
Mr Arthur, who is also the Corporate Communications Manager of the GCGL, referred to the parable of the Good Samaritan in the Bible and urged the congregation not to worry that they did not know who they were helping, indicating that anybody in need was their neighbour.
"Your help to the poor is a loan to God and your interest is manifold," he added.
Church support
The Minister in charge, Rev. T. S. Akunor, said the church was interested in the welfare of the needy, adding that there had been instances where some members of the church had been faced with such situations and they usually had to go through a lot of struggles to raise money for treatment.
In that regard, he said, he was much delighted that such a project was being undertaken by the Graphic Needy Trust Fund, saying “if you have taken this as your social responsibility, the church is happy to help.”
He called on other individuals and corporate bodies to support the fund to enable it to achieve its target.
Background
The GNTF was started with an objective to support individuals in society who are facing challenges in accessing treatment due to financial constraints.
It has so far supported over 170 needy individuals to get treatment, including treatments abroad.
