GhIE inducts 148 professional engineers in Accra
The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has inducted 148 professional engineers at its 45th induction ceremony.
The new inductees were made up of 54 Civil Engineers, 20 Mechanical/Agriculture Engineers, 23 Chemical/Mining Engineers and 51 Electrical/Electronic Engineers.
Out of the number, 134 candidates participated in the various Professional Engineering Examinations held in October/November 2024 while 14 participated in the confirmation hearing in January 2025, making a total of 148 Professional Engineers.
Swearing
Swearing in the newly inducted professional engineers, the President of GhIE, Kwabena Bempong, said there were many challenges out there for which solutions were being sought.

He believed that as engineering practitioners, they possessed relevant knowledge, experience and a desire to face frontally.
He, therefore, charged them not to be part of the challenges or problems but solution-oriented practitioners who bring relief and comfort and make life worth living for the citizenry.
Mr Bempong further encouraged the new inductees to engage actively in national discourse on infrastructure, development and politics, stressing, “Your voice is needed to influence policy and drive the strategic initiatives that will shape the future of our dear nation”.
Furthermore, he recommended to the engineers that they should find time to exercise regularly, eat healthily, find time to relax and learn other subjects apart from engineering.
“I recommend you to acquire the basic knowledge in areas such as diplomacy, public speaking, finance, accounting, law, corporate management, etc, so that you will become complete and know how to navigate through your life as professionals,” he said.
He called on all engineering practitioners to actively participate in the activities of GhIE, especially the upcoming Engineering Conference and AGM scheduled to begin from March 24-29, 2025.
Mr Bempong hinted that through participation in GhIE activities, members would have the opportunity to network with like-minded professionals from all over the world, exchange ideas and contacts, and learn from those who had paved the way before them.
Divisions
The Chairman of the Membership Committee of GhIE, Dr Patrick Amoah Bekoe, explained that the institution was organised into four technical divisions and four occupational groups.
The four technical divisions are Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Mechanical/Marine/Agriculture Engineering.
He added that as outlined in the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819), the four Occupational Groups are categorised as: Professional Engineers, Professional Engineering Technologists, Engineering Technicians and Engineering Craftsmen.
Dr Bekoe revealed that all the 148 candidates being inducted belonged to the Professional Engineers Occupational Group.
In a word of advice to the newly inducted Professional Engineers, the Registrar of the Engineering Council of Ghana, Isaac Bedu, said as the members embarked on this journey, it was critical to remember that the engineering profession was held to the highest standards.
He added that the work of engineering practitioners directly impacted people’s lives and, as such, demanded adherence to best practices, high ethical considerations, and compliance with regulations, as laid out by the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (ACT 819) and accompanying regulations (L.I 2410).
He informed the newly inducted professional engineers that the law required that each engineering practitioner must be licensed before they could practise.
He said induction into the engineering fraternity “is what you have achieved today, it doesn’t mean you have been licensed. GhIE will submit your names and credentials to the Engineering Council through the Registrar for scrutiny following which you will be licensed to practise”.
Awards were presented to inductees who performed excellently.
They are Giona Jaynelle Asafu-Adajaye, Overall Best in the Chemical/Mining Technical Division; Emmanuel Odompreh Kwadjo - Dei, the Overall Best in the Mech/Agric/Marine Technical Division; Bernard Wiafe Akenteng, the Overall Best in the Civil Technical Division while Adusei Bismark Kyeremeh was adjudged the overall best in the Electrical/Electronic Technical division.
