ECG sets up 4 specialised teams to enhance operations

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has set up four specialised teams to monitor and evaluate the business of the company  to reduce losses, boost revenue generation and enhance service delivery.

They are the commercial, financial, network operations and technology teams.

The acting Managing Director (MD) of ECG, Kwame Kpekpena, made this known during an open forum when he met the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana at the ECG Training Centre in Tema.

The interaction was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the management and staff of the company.

Vision

Acknowledging past inefficiencies, Mr Kpekpena pledged to work closely with the staff to significantly reduce losses and improve revenue while calling on the union to be active partners in fostering a culture of dedication and discipline among staff. “We cannot build the company we want without principles,” he asserted.

Laying out his strategic vision, the acting ECG MD underscored the urgent need for transparency, accountability and financial discipline, stating emphatically; “You can’t build trust when there’s no transparency.”

Improving efficiency

During the open forum, contributions from the union leadership, in summary, pointed to the fact that members were disappointed with happenings within the company based on the various audit reports that had given it negative press and lowered its reputation among stakeholders.

The workers’ union was of the view that based on Mr Kpekpena’s lengthy period in ECG and the private sector, he could lead the company to navigate the transition from the current situation to a strong fiscal performance.

Collective agreement

Earlier, Mr Kpekpena and the General Secretary of the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU), Timothy Nyame, signed the Collective Agreement (CA), signalling a renewed commitment to workers’ welfare and the company’s growth.

The union leadership welcomed the acting MD’s vision and pledged its support while urging him to prioritise staff welfare as part of ECG’s restructuring efforts.

With his focus on restoring ECG’s reputation in what he calls “The new ECG in Town”, Mr Kpekpena’s approach signals a new era of leadership that prioritises inclusivity, accountability, discipline and a shared commitment to progress.
