GHACEM supports institutions in southern Ghana
Cement manufacturer, GHACEM Ltd, has donated 21,000 bags of cement to selected health and educational institutions in deprived communities in the Greater Accra, Central, Western, Eastern and Volta regions.
The donation, valued at GH¢600,000, is a support package for the institutions which are currently undertaking various infrastructural projects.
Through its GHACEM Cement Foundation (GCF), the company annually gives cement to institutions across the country grouped into Southern and Northern sectors.
Thursday’s event, which was held at the Elmina Beach Resort in the Central Region, was for the Southern sector.

Welcoming beneficiaries to the event, the Secretary to the GCF, Dr George Dawson-Ahmoah, who is also the Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of Ghacem applauded the beneficiaries for their commitment to infrastructural development which informed their decision to apply for the free cement and advised them to use the cement for the intended purpose.
The Managing Director of GHACEM), Mr Morten Gade, said for the past 13 years, the Ghacem Cement Foundation has contributed immensely to cutting down the infrastructural deficit in the country’s health and educational sectors.
This, he observed, reinforced the importance GHACEM attached to its corporate social responsibility, which it had vigorously pursued since its establishment 48 years ago.
Expansion of Takoradi facility
Mr Gade said a new mill at GHACEM’s factory in Takoradi had been inaugurated as part of efforts to increase production capacity and meet market demands.
“The expansion at the Takoradi factory cost about €23 million, equivalent to GH¢85 million,” he said, indicating, however, that its operations were currently hampered by unreliable power supply.
This notwithstanding, Mr Gade said the company would work relentlessly to maintain its hold on the domestic market, “by producing and delivering innovative, high-quality, cost-effective and environmentally responsible cement.”
The Chairman of the foundation, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, reiterated the resolve by the company to continue to support especially deprived communities. “We believe Ghanaians deserve to live in a country with improved infrastructure, which is inextricably linked to enhancing the quality of life. We are also committed to doing more especially where there is genuine need for support,” he said
He called on Ghanaians to take advantage of this benevolence from Ghacem and apply to receive cement for infrastructural development.
