Former Gyaasehene found dead

Barely two months after abdicating his stool, the former Gyaasehene of Jachie in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti region, Nana Akwasi Boadi, was found hanging in a maize farm in what both police and family members suspected to be suicide.

The 47-year-old ex-chief, who went missing last Saturday, was found hanging on a tree with his sandals under the tree in the maize farm at Jachie last Monday.

Some children who were hunting for birds in the bush discovered the body and rushed home to inform some elderly people.

Information gathered by the Daily Graphic indicates that about two months ago, the deceased personally walked to the chief of Jachie to tell him of his wish to abdicate as the Gyaasehene since he was not mentally fit to occupy the position.

When contacted, the Jachie Police Station Officer, Inspector Michael Adu, confirmed the incident and said the station received a complaint about his disappearance from the house from the chief’s relatives.

The police, he said, had started investigations into the incident.

Inspector Adu  said at about 2.pm on Monday, Mr Albert Yamoah, a relative of a 12-year-old-boy, came to the station and told officers that the boy had found a body hanging in the bush.

According to him, Mr Yamoah said it was the boy who first rushed home to tell him that he had gone to the bush with a friend to  hunt for birds and in  the process found a  man hanging on a tree in a maize farm. The boy said because they were afraid to go near the body, they could not identify  the Gyaasehene. The young boy, therefore, returned to the house and informed  Mr Yamoah, who led him to the police station.

Inspector Adu said the police visited the scene and found out that it was Nana Boadi.  The body was retrieved and subsequently deposited at the hospital for autopsy.

A relative of the deceased, Mr Bright Kyeremateng, also told the Daily Graphic that the family did not suspect foul play.

Nana Akwasi left behind a wife and five children.
